Evelyn's Drive - In
Opens for 2005 Season

Evelyn's Drive - In welcomes you for the 2005 summer season

Tiverton, RI (March 12, 2005) – After a winter that has brought us a record snow fall, and a March that feels more like an extension of January, the re-opening of Evelyn’s Drive-In on Nanaquacket Pond in Tiverton says to many that all things cold and dreary must eventually come to an end. "If you grew up in New England it is just what summer means to you," says Domenic Bitto the restaurant’s cook and co-owner, "a lot of time out on the water, the freshest lobster rolls and fried clam plates, and trading in your coat for flip flops. For almost 40 years Evelyn’s has been delivering on that way of life. You can come here by boat, if you want, sit by the water and have a long lunch. It’s just the water and good food. That’s what folks come for."

Months of boating and bathing suits may be still months away but Evelyn’s is one summer tradition that comes early every year. Specializing in seafood and other local favorites, the red "chowder house" will be reopening on April 6th for its 2005 season. Whether you come by boat (Evelyn’s has its own private dock) or take the drive down, Evelyn’s will be open for lunch and dinner Mon., Weds, Thurs., Friday, Saturday & Sunday 11:00a.m. - 8:30p.m and is closed on Tuesdays.

Over the years, Evelyn’s has whipped up countless batches of fish and chips and seafood platters -- and while those favorites keep coming every season, co-owners and husband and wife team Domenic and Jane Bitto see to it that there is always that element of surprise on the menu and in the experience.

Coming in June, Evelyn’s expanded outdoor patio will include a select outdoor bar near its umbrella-covered tables. For those who would rather be outdoors than sit in the air-conditioned dining room, the patio is a favorite spot for Evelyn’s patrons to enjoy the panoramic views of the water traffic. Evelyn’s also has a full take out window service for their beach bound patrons or those that choose to sit at the picnic table area.

Evelyn’s was recently featured on The Today Show as a "must see" New England weekend destination during the DNC Political Convention. The restaurant has also been featured in THE NEW ENGLAND CLAM SHACK COOKBOOK: Favorite Recipes from Clam Shacks, Lobster Pounds & Chowder Houses by Bon Appetit contributor Brooke Dojny. It was singled out for its classis Yankee cuisine; and the recipes for many of Evelyn’s most popular items were highlighted in the book.

Over the years, Evelyn’s has kept on classic seafood fare while still offering up new selections for its customers. Tried and true favorites include batter-fried whole belly clams, crispy clam cakes, steaming bowls of broth chowder, "stuffies" (baked stuffed quahogs), and lobster rolls. New additions to the menu include an appetizer of grilled scallops, a cream based fish chowder seasoned with bacon, a heaping bowl of steamed and seasoned mussels, Maryland style crab cakes with homemade horseradish sauce, and a homemade chocolate foerst dessert for something sweet at the end of your meal. Evelyn’s also features and an extensive children’s menu.

Whether you are in the mood for a glass of wine and a fine dinner of baked cod stuffed with shrimp and scallops or prefer simpler fare like chowder with clam cakes – Evelyn’s can satisfy any appetite.

Founded almost 40 years ago by its namesake Evelyn Duponte, the restaurant has been a summer destinations for out-of-towners and locals alike.

Evelyn’s has been family run and family owned for the past 19 years, by husband and wife team Domenic and Jane Bitto. For more information about Evelyn’s please contact Kate Hathaway at 617.413.3875 or check us out online www.evelynsdrivein.com.
